Railway men’s strike and other strikes as part of Indian Freedom Struggle

Anti-imperialistic agitations continued to take place in different parts of the country. There was a popular protest against the government decision to cut down ration supplies to the civilian population. Over 80000 people participated in the strike in Allahabad in February 1946. Another was the police strike in April 1946 in Malabar, Bihar, Eastern Bengal and Delhi. In July 1946 the postal employees decided to defy the authorities and struck work for a time. Calcutta observed a total general strike on 29 July 1946. Excitement also ran very high in July 1946 throughout the country over the threat of an all India railway employees strike.
