All India Kisan Sabha[1936]


The need for a central organization of the peasants was felt by the socialists and the communists. Their efforts led to the formation of the All India Kisan Sabha in 1936. N.G.Rangaand Narendradev were some of the prominent leaders of the Sabha. They put forward several demands including the protection of peasants from economic exploitation, the abolition of landlordism, reduction of revenue and rent, moratorium on debts, minimum wages for agricultural labourers and irrigation facilities.

Progressive Writers’ Association: In 1936 the Progressive Writers’ Association was formed.Premchand, the famous Hindi-Urdu novelist presided over the first session held at Lucknow. The formation of the organization was the result of a growing trend among the Indian Writers to wage an ideological in literature in favour of the masses who were fighting against foreign rule and against all forms of oppression and economic exploitation. In 1935 an attempt was made to bring all progressive writers in all languages into a national organization. The result was the formation of the All India Progressive Writers’ Association.
